Facade and landscape lighting
Exterior lighting is specified from the surface outwards: what is being lit, from where, and what the fitting has to survive. This guide covers the optic and setback decision and the ratings that belong in the specification.

What specifiers ask
Which optic, setback and mounting detail suits the surface?
Grazing from close to the surface reveals texture and construction tolerance. Washing from a setback gives a more even result. Choose from a calculation for the actual surface height, then fix the mounting detail with the facade contractor.
What ratings are needed?
Confirm the IP rating, the IK impact rating where the fitting is reachable, the maximum ambient temperature for summer conditions, and the corrosion class for coastal or irrigated locations.
What maintenance access is required?
Every exterior fitting needs a stated route for cleaning, re-aiming and gear replacement. Inground fittings additionally need a drained sleeve detail.
How is unwanted light controlled?
Use shields, louvres and correct aiming, and check spill towards windows and neighbouring plots in the calculation rather than on site.
