The electrical layer behind a lighting scheme

Lumi Tronix contains the drivers, power supplies and control components that support a lighting installation. These products are selected to suit the connected luminaires and the electrical design, rather than the appearance of the room alone. A workplace, a retail display and a residential light line may each require a different combination of output characteristics, load and control method.

Specification considerations

Match the luminaire's voltage or current requirements to the driver output, then check the load, input supply, dimming interface and installation conditions in the model data. Confirm compatibility across every connected component and allow access for service. The application scenes show settings for lighting, not evidence of a particular control protocol or driver installation.

What's in the range

How specifiers choose within this range

01

Match the driver to the load

Constant current for LED modules, constant voltage for tape; size for 80-90% of the rated load so the driver runs cool.

02

Fix one protocol per room

DALI-2, phase or 1-10 V — mixing protocols on a circuit is the most common cause of flicker and uneven dimming.

03

Check the ambient

Drivers derate with heat: confirm the Ta rating for the location, especially in ceiling voids and external enclosures.

04

Plan the cable runs

Voltage drop on low-voltage tape runs limits the distance from the driver — split runs and place gear near the load.

05

Allow access for service

Drivers are the first component to be replaced — give every remote driver an accessible, ventilated position.

How to specify — in five steps

  1. List the luminaires and total load per circuit.step 1
  2. Choose constant current or constant voltage and the protocol.step 2
  3. Size the driver with headroom and check the Ta rating.step 3
  4. Set driver locations, cable runs and access.step 4
  5. Send the BOQ with drivers and luminaires together.step 5

Specifier questions

Which driver do I need for LED tape?+

A constant-voltage supply at the tape's voltage, sized to 80-90% of the run's total load, with the dimming protocol used in that room.

Why does my scheme flicker at low level?+

Usually a protocol or driver mismatch. Confirm every driver on the circuit supports the same dimming protocol and minimum level.

Can drivers sit outside?+

Only IP-rated supplies in a ventilated, accessible enclosure — state the ambient temperature so we can confirm the derating.

How much headroom should I allow?+

Size for 80-90% of the rated output; running a driver at its limit shortens life and can cause dimming instability.
