Wall washers and grazers
Wall washing and grazing create different results. Washing aims for a more even illuminated surface; grazing can reveal texture and imperfections. Select the optic and setback using a model-specific calculation or mock-up. Coordinate joints, power feeds and maintenance access, and show actual distribution diagrams rather than relying only on an application photograph.

How to compare setback, beam orientation, uniformity and texture
Setback
The distance from the surface changes uniformity more than the wattage does.
Beam orientation
Asymmetric optics push light up the surface; symmetric optics pool it near the fitting.
Uniformity
Check the calculated result, not only a photograph.
Texture
Grazing exposes construction tolerance — mock it up on the real material.
